Water Testing - June 30, 2015

Did you know that each of our four store locations has a free water lab for our customers? This means that after last weekends sizzling temperatures and the local events of Hoopfest and Ironman, your swimming pool may need some assistance in becoming the balanced sparkling pool it normally is.

Scoop up about two cups of water from elbow deep and bring it into your nearest Pool World location. The BioGuard Smart Lab partnered with ALEX software will provide you with an accurate reading in as little as 60 seconds. These results are then processed through the ALEX software where it will evaluate the chemistry level and provide a treatment regiment.  Every recommended prescription for a swimming pool or hot tub is personally reviewed and adjusted by our knowledgeable staff to meet your needs.

Our water lab services are always up and ready for operation when our stores open until they close. Come in this week and clean up from last weekend and prepare for the 4th of July!

Hot Temperatures are coming! - June 24, 2015

Another weekend is just within reach! This weekend is predicted to be in the 100’s degrees F in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area. This is a little hot even for our area.

With summer being synonymous with hot temperatures, swimming, and venturing outdoors these may put you out during the hottest part of the day. Keep a few things in mind during the sizzling days…

Enjoy the outdoors but take it easy: It sounds simple, but it is easy to overexert yourself in the temperatures that they are predicting. It doesn’t matter if it’s kids playing outside, outdoor labor or just relaxing outside. Be aware of how your body feels and don’t push your self too hard.

Heat Cramps: involuntary muscle spasms throughout the body. Heat Exhaustion: headache, nausea, extreme thirst and weakness. Heat Stroke: (Extremely Serious; possible death) rapid and shallow breathing, hot/red skin, rapid heartbeat, seizures plus all the symptoms of heat exhaustion.

It’s very important to be aware of these symptoms and to recognize this sign before it’s too late. It’s recommended to find shady spot to cool down and to drink water. If you believe that it is heat stroke, immediately contact emergency services.

Stay Hydrated: Drink and lots of extra water on hand. It’s imperative to drink at least 8 cups of water a day and even more while enjoying the hot weather. The body loses a lot of water through perspiration by the body’s attempt to keep cool. In the process of sweating the body looses water and salt (electrolytes.) It is also recommend to consume sports drinks occasionally to boost the electrolytes, this will help to prevent any heat cramps from occurring. Remember to keep all of your water and sport drinks cold because it can assist you with keeping your core temperature lower, at a more comfortable temperature.

White or Light-Colored Clothing: White and light-colored clothing helps to reflect light and heat from the sun away from the body. This will allow your body to stay at a more comfortable temperature. Clothing fabric that is breathable and loose fitting will also assist your body in regulating a lower more comfortable temperature.

Spice up a Classic Hot Dog! - June 17, 2015

Enjoying a summer evening is easy when you cook or grill dinner on the barbecue or grill. The easiest way to do this is by cooking some hot dogs. Maybe you don’t want to do the same ole classic frank on a bun so we have a few recommendations to spice up this classic!

Add some kick to the classic condiments! Use the classic ketchup, mayo, mustard and stir in a few extra things to create a new flavor. One of the most popular ways to do this is by adding some fresh lemon juice and seasoning to mayonnaise. The same concept goes for the ketchup, add a little harissa paste until you come to a preferred taste. For the mustard, try adding a splash or two of maple syrup.

A second way to change up the classic hot dog is by grilling your toppings! Grill up toppings like red and yellow onions, peppers and corn. Grill the corn and cut off the cobb as the perfect sweet topping.

The third way to jazz up the classic hot dog is by adding some pickled items to the menu! Add some crunch by using pickled carrots, pickled cabbage, sweet relish or dill pickle relish and for someone looking for a little more kick, use scallion kimchi.

Create a new hot dog night that everyone will love!
